Indiosyncrasy is the coming-out story of “Nene” a New York Latino man coming to terms with repressed facets of his identity. In a desperate attempt to understand himself, he leaves his wife and two children and falls into addiction. “Nene” ultimately finds redemption as he battles against internalized homophobia, heterosexism and stereotypes.

Presented in mini tableaus and based on true life experiences Indiosyncrasy uses monologue, spoken word and Afro-Cuban song and dance to explore labels “Nene” has been given - husband, father, son, friend and faggot.

Indiosyncrasy is a lyrical and visual journey that is both personal and spiritual. Melendez delivers a lot of energy along with a provocative message that most of us need to be reminded of. One of the most important things he shows us is that while we all have idiosyncrasies, we are also all united in our humanity. NYTHEATRE.COM
